Orexigen Therapeutics Shuffles Board
Three of the venture investors in publicly held Orexigen Therapeutics are departing the board of directors of the company, Orexigen said Friday, as the firm shuffled its board. Orexigen said that Joseph Lacob, Michael Powell, and Daniel Turner--all early venture investors in the company--are departing, as the company adds Lota S. Zoth, CPA to the board. ZOth was most previously CFO at MedImmune. Lacob is at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Powell is at Sofinnova Ventures, and Turner is at Montr (More info...)

SpaceX To Webcast Test Firing Monday
Hawthorne-based commercial spacecraft developer SpaceX said Friday that it will be webcasting its test firing of its Falcon 9 rocket, as it prepared for its upcoming launch to dock with the International Space Station (ISS). SpaceX said it will be conducting a static fire test of the Falcon 9 on Monday, April 30th, at 11:30 A.M. The entire test will be webcast on the SpaceX site. USC Marshall Awards $50K In Seed Funding Competition
Six companies started by students at the University of Southern California's Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at USC Marshall have been awarded a total of $50,000 in seed funding, after competing in the center's New Venture Seed Competition held this week. According to USC Marshall, it awarded $15,000 in seed funding for two first place winners, and four $5,000 seed prizes to companies. SOA Software Expands In Australia and New Zealand
Los Angeles-based SOA Software is expanding in Australia and New Zealand, the firm said this week, due to growing customer demand in the region. The developer of software used to build enterprise software, services, and APIs, said it has hired Iain Goodway to head up its operations in the area; he also has served at CA, Serole Technologies, MICROMega Technologies, and Ericsson.

Paragon Updates Disaster Recovery Software
Irvine-based Paragon Software, the developer of data storage and mobile software, reported earlier this week that it has updated its Hard Disk Manager (HDM) software. The firm, which is led by Tom Fedro, said the updated software now includes support for virtual disks, incremental backup of sector-based image backups, and more. The new upgrades are aimed at helping IT administrators back up users using virtual machines.
