Teledyne Scientific Gets $2.1M From DOE
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Scientific and Imaging has been awarded $2.1M, as part of a major investment from the U.S. Department of Energy announced Tuesday, to bolster innovative manufacturing technology in the United States. According to the Department of Energy, it awarded more than $54 million to thirteen projects across the country, which it says will "advance transformational technologies and materials" for American manufacturers. SpotlightTMS Wins American Airlines Center
Calabasas-based SpotlightTMS, the startup providing software to manage sports and entertainment tickets and seats owned by corporations, has signed on another event venue, the company said this week. SpotlightTMS said that the American Airlines Center in Dallas is offering up its products to its suite and platinum customers, to help those customers manage their premium seating packages. A new startup, Uncovet, headed by Heather Lipner and backed by Mike Jones' Science studio/incubator, has launched today, saying that it will provide curate, ec-ommerce focused around fashion and the home. Uncovet says its site helps map a shopper's "style graph", and provide discounts and tailored shopping recommendations to users. National Technical Systems Buys Garwood Laboratories
Calabasas-based National Technical Systems, which provides test and engineering services, said this morning that it has acquired Garwood Laboratories, a Southern California provider of product certification labs. Financial terms of the buy were not announced. Garwood has facilities in Pico Rivera and San Clemente, and services the commercial, defense, space, medical, aviation and transportation industries. NTS said the acquisition is the third for the company in the past 12 months.

Qualstar Hires Turnaround Specialist As CEO
Simi Valley-based Qualstar, the developer of enterprise tape libraries, said today that it is appointing a turnaround specialist as CEO of the company, under pressure from an investor looking to take over the company. Qualstar said it has hired Larry Firestone, who the company billed as a "turnaround specialist", as CEO, as part of a restructuring effort. Slacker Expands ESPN Radio Stations
San Diego-based online, personalized Internet radio service Slacker said Monday that it has launched a new set of ESPN stations on its service. According to the two, six new national, regional, and Spanish language ESPN stations have launched on Slacker Radio, on Slacker's web site and smartphone applications. Slacker said the stations include ESPN regional stations for New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas. NetDNA Wins TheNextWeb.com
Los Angeles-based content delivery network provider NetDNA reports this morning that it has scored a customer win with news website The Next Web. Financial details of the win were not disclosed. NetDNA said that TheNextWeb has selected its MaxCDN subsidiary to provide content deliver network (CDN) services to handle its more than six million monthly visitors.
