myRight Helps Answer Legal Questions, Online
Have a legal question? A new, Los Angeles startup, myRight, is hoping to help users with some basic legal questions, through a new service geared around asking users questions-and-answers about their legal questions. The startup, part of the StartEngine accelerator, asks users a series of questions around different topics -- things like security deposits, wills, gun control -- helping users to learn more about different topics, and also referring them to more detailed information sources and law (More info...)

ServiceNow Snags Former Zynga CTO
San Diego-based ServiceNow, the provider of enterprise, software-as-a-service products for IT management, has snagged the cloud infrastructure CTO out of Zynga, Allan Leinwand. The move was first uncovered by VentureBeat. Leinwand headed up Zynga's infrastructure efforts, and also previously founded Vyatta, in addition to having been a venture capitalist at Panorama Capital. ServiceNow had its IPO in June.

GoDaddy Hack Takes Down Websites
A major hack on domain name registrar GoDaddy appears to have taken out a huge number of internet sites -- including local startup Goodreads. GoDaddy hosts millions of domain names, as well as provides web hosting services itself, but it's unclear how many sites were affected by the outage. The outage has been blamed on hacking activity. Martha Stewart Now On Hulu
Hulu, the Los Angeles online video site, said this morning that Martha Stewart is the latest personality to add her content to the site. Details on the deal between Hulu and Martha Stewart Living were not disclosed, however, Hulu said it would be adding a "ton of content" from Martha Stewart's most popular titles from the last few decades. Health In Reach Launches Rewards Points Program
How would you like to receive "frequent flyer" points for visiting your doctor or dentist? That's just what Los Angeles-based Health In Reach announced this morning, saying that it has launched a reward program where users can earn free dental and medical care, for using the firm's free online service for booking appointments with dentists and doctors. Map: Southern California Hotbed Of Kickstarter Activity
A new mashup map of activity on crowdfunding site Kickstarter shows that Southern California is apparently one of the hotbeds of activity on the site. The site shows that an astonishing 671 projects on Kickstarter are in the area -- second only to the New York area, with 744 projects -- and far exceeding 113 projects in Northern California. StackSocial Revamps Service, Gets Mobile Friendly
StackSocial, the venture-backed startup focused on a service that ties e-commerce with online publishers, said over the weekend that it has "completely overhauled" its site, focused on mobile-ready access and connections to social sites like Facebook. The startup--backed by 500 Startups, Siemer Ventures, EchoVC Partners, and Amplify LA--is one of the first firms out of Los Angeles-based accelerator Amplify. NationBuilder Ties With Candidate Check
Los Angeles-based NationBuilder, a startup developing an online set of tools for political candidates, said over the weekend that it has tied in with a tool which does a background check on candidates. The firm said it has integrated Candidate Check, a service which allows political candidates to show their own, "Candidate Trusted Seal" showing they've been vetted by a third party source, including information on employment history, military records, criminal background, and more. Sorenson Media Launches New Product For Servers
San Diego-based Sorenson Media, the developer of video encoding and decoding software headed by Peter Csathy, said late last night that it has launched a new product, Sorenson Squeeze Premium. The new product is a version of its standard Squeeze video encoding software specifically aimed at running on windows Server 2008. The new software retails at Squeeze Premium is $1,995, and includes a number of features designed to help automate processes in its user interface.

Nirvanix Names VP of Worldwide Sales
San Diego-based cloud storage provider Nirvanix announced this morning that it has hired Tina Gravel as its new Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Gravel joins from Terremark, a provider of cloud computing services, which was acquired by Verizon last year. Nirvanix said that Gravel also has served at Data Return, SAS, Sybase and CSC. Kurion Expands Board
Irvine-based Kurion, the venture backed provider of nuclear and hazardous waste cleanup technology, said today that it has named two new board members. Kurion said it had added D. Michael Steuert and Fred Kittler to the board. Steuert was most recently Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Fluor Industries, and also has served at Litton Industries, GenCorp, and TRW. Illumina Sets HR VP
San Diego-based Illumina appointed Paul Bianchi as its Senior Vice President of Human Resources this morning. Bianchi joins from Risk Management Solutions, and also had served at Strayer Consulting Services, PeopleSoft, Hands-On Mobile, Ask Jeeves, ProBusiness Services, NeXT Computer, and Apple. Illumina, which develops life sciences tools and systems, said BIanchi is based in the San Francisco Bay Area.
