Raytheon Moves Headquarters From El Segundo
In what is not a surprise for Southern California's shift away from the industry, defense contractor Raytheon said Thursday that it is shutting down its business headquarters locations in El Segundo, and moving its Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) business headquarters to McKinney, Texas. Raytheon said the move is part of an effort to streamline operations, increase productivity, and to "achieve stronger alignment" with its customers.

NRG Solar Officially Opens Largest Solar Plant in California
Carlsbad-based solar energy developer NRG Energy announced this morning that it has cut the ribbon on what it says is the largest, operating photovoltaic facility in California. The solar plant--located in Lancaster--will officially open later today. NRG said its new Alpine Solar Generating Facility will produce 66 megawatts of capacity, or the equivalent of 53,000 homes. The plant's energy output is being sold to PG&E. The Northern Los Angeles County plant actually started commercial operations (More info...)

Cymer Merger Effort Gets Another Approval
The acquisition of San Diego's Cymer by Dutch company ASML has cleared another regulatory hurdle, the two said Thursday, as the Japan Fair Trade Commission cleared the company's acquisition deal. The two have been grinding through a long list of government clearances (so far, from the U.S., Taiwan, Germany, and Israel) since the deal was announced last October. CraveOnline Sets Up Its Own Production Studio
Los Angeles-based CraveOnline, the online unit of Evolve Media which caters to men with its video and other online content, said it has set up its own studio for creating original video. The company said it has opened up a new, 4,000 square foot studio at its Los Angeles headquarters specifically to create original video. Apriso Targets Global Manufacturers
Long Beach-based Apriso, the developer of software for managing manufacturing operations, said this week that it has debuted a new product. The new product is aimed at global manufacturers, the company said, to provide them better visibility into their plant floor. The firm said its Packaging Solution for Global Manufacturer was designed specifically for handling language, labeling, and material tracking requirements for those manufacturers.
