SpaceX Successfully Launches Air Force Satellite Into Space
Los Angeles-based SpaceX, the space rocket firm run by Elon Musk, successfully launched its latest mission--a delivery of an Air Force satellite into deep space--on Wednesday evening. The launch came on the third try for SpaceX, which had encountered problems with an Air Force radar on Sunday, and high winds on Tuesday. SpaceX Set To Launch Space Weather Satellite, But Weather Nixes Landing Test
Hawthorne-based SpaceX was minutes away from a launch of an Air Force space weather satellite, on its third try, as of Wednesday afternoon--but nixed testing recovery of its first stage, due to "extreme weather" in the Atlantic Ocean. SpaceX was scheduled to launch at 6:03pm ET. Laurel & Wolf Raises $5.5M For Interior Design Marketplace
West Hollywood-based Laurel & Wolf, a startup which offers up an online marketplace to connect people with top interior designers, disclosed Wednesday that it has raised $5.5M in funding. The funding included $4.4M in a Series A funding, along with $1.1M in seed funding. The Series A came from Charles River Ventures, Karlin Ventures, Upside Partnership, and Draper & Associates. Laurel & Wolf is led by Leura Fine, and was co-founded by Brandon Kleinman.

SecureAuth Bolsters Board With Jawbone Exec
Irvine-based SecureAuth said today that it has added Justin Dolly, the Vice President, Chief Security and Privacy Officer at Jawbone, to its board of directors. SecureAuth--which develops two factor authentication software and services--will help the company with its technology roadmap and growing its organization. Dolly also has served at VMware, ServiceNow, CBS Interactive, CNET Networks and Macromedia. SecureAuth is led by Craig Lund. SecureAuth is backed by Toba Capital.

LA Startups At Forefront Of Hyperloop Efforts
Remember Elon Musks's HyperLoop--the grand idea for transporting people from Los Angeles to San Francisco at 800 mph? A new, Los Angeles startup, Hyperloop Technologies has emerged--with $8.5M in funding--to bring those dreams to life. Hyperloop Technologies said today that it received that funding round from Sherp a Ventures, Formation 8, Zhen Capital, David Sacks, and Peter Diamandis, as well as former White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina, and plans to raise another $80M in a funding (More info...)

j2 Global Buys Firstway Digital
Los Angeles-based j2 Global> announced this morning that it has made another acquisition, this time of Dublin, Ireland-based Firstway Digital Limited. Firstway is a distributor of digital fax services under the FaxBox name. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. j2 Global said it will use the acquisition to grow its internet fax business.
