Envi Launches (Another) On-Demand Car Wash Service In LA
In the second, on-demand, car-wash startup to launch in Los Angeles in the last few months, Los Angeles-based Envi says it has launched a new, on-demand startup to help users get their cars washed, using a mobile app. The startup--currently in public beta in Los Angeles--says its services start at $30.00 for the exterior of a car, and offers up environmentally friendly, socially responsible on-demand car detailing. U.S. To Require Drone Registration
The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a move to require all, recreational drone users to register their drones with the government, after a rash of near close-calls and rampant drone proliferation with hobbyists. According to the USDOT, it has created a task force which will develop recommendations, to be put forth on November 20th, to increase accountability of users for their drone operations. NantWorks Pays $50M For Majority Stake In Precision Biologics
Los Angeles-based NantWorks said this morning that it has acquired a majority stake in Precision Biologics with a $50M investment in the company. Precision Biologics is a biopharmaceutical company which is developing tumor-specific monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) and companion diagnostics to treat solid-tumor cancers. Western Digital Gets Nod To Integrate HGST, Other China Subsidiaries
Irvine-based Western Digital said today that it has received a nod from China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), which will finally allow it to integrate "substantial" portions of its HGST and WD subsidiaries. Western Digital had acquired HGST back in March of 2012, but as a condition of approving the acquisition, China had essentially handcuffed the company's involvement in day to day operations in HGST. Microsemi Makes $2.4 Billion Bid For PMC-Sierra
Aliso Viejo-based semiconductor developer Microsemi has made a $2.4 billion bid for PMC-Sierra, saying it is proposing to acquire the fellow semiconductor developer for $11.50 per share--$400 million more than a deal brokered between PMC-Sierra and Skyworks Solutions earlier this month. Microsemi said its proposed acquisition would produce a company with $1.75 billion of combined revenues, and would complement its optical and switching portfolios. Sorrento Therapeutics Names COO
San Diego-based Sorrento Therapeutics said today that it has named Dr. Jeffrey Su as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Su was previously Chief Scientific and Development Officer at Cytovance Biologics, and also served at Sanofi Pasteur, Femta Biopharmaceutical, Cancervax Corp., The Dow Chemical Company, Tanox, and Human Genome Science. The company said Su will lead its in-house bioprocess and manufacturing operations.
