Mad Catz Files For Chapter 7 Bankrupcy
San Diego-based gaming accessory maker Mad Catz Interactive has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, with PricewaterhouseCoopers being assigned the trustee of the company. According to Mad Catz, it has ceased operations, and all of its directors and officers have resigned from the company. The company filed for bankruptcy afer failing to find a buyer for the company. Mad Catz had said in 2016 that it was considering "strategic alternatives" for the company.

Hulu's Hu: For Viewers With The Attention Span Of Goldfish
Los Angeles-based streaming television service Hulu is up to its usual tricks for this time of year, and said on Friday that it has launched a brand new service called Hu, which it says condenses the entire episode of popular series into eight seconds or less, and lets viewers "stream entire seasons" of popular TV shows in "under five minutes." Echo Gets $7.5M For Microscope Development
San Diego-based Echo, a startup which is developing a new "hybrid" microscope aimed at replacing both upright and inverted microscopes, has raised $7.5M in a Series A funding. The funding was co-led by Dolby Family Ventures and Tech Coast Angels (TCA). According to the company, the new funding will go towards manufacturing, sales, and developing future technologies. Upload Plans VR/AR Coworking Space In Marina Del Rey
Upload Inc., a Bay Area company focused on virtual and augmented reality training and coworking, said on Thursday that it plans on opening up a new Los Angeles area education and coworking space, specifically focused on the VR and AR community. The company said its new site, based in Marina Del Rey, will open on April 13th. MINDBODY Helps Power New Google Fitness Reservation Service
San Luis Obispo-based MINDBODY is one of the companies behind the new, Google service for booking fitness and spa appointments, Google Reserve. Google, which announced the new service on Thursday, said it now allows users to book and pay for fitness classes through Google Maps, Google Search, and the Reserve with Google website. Google said it is using MINDBODY, plus MyTime, Genbook, Full Slate, Front Desk, Appointy, and others, to power the service.

NantHealth Hits $100M Revenue Mark
Culver City-based personalized healthcare and medicine company NantHealth, one of the companies run by biotech billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, has just hit the $100 million mark, the company announced on Thursday. The company said its full 2016 year net revenues were $100.4M, an increase of 72% over the company's 2015 revenues of $58.3M. Esri Ties Into National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency Cross Training Effort
Redlands-based Esri, the developer of geographical information systems, mapping, and spatial analytics software, has been selected by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), for a program which places NGA employees in industry positions. According to Esri, the agency's eNGAge program places NGA employees in temporary positions with industry and academic partners, and also embeds experts from external institutions in NGA teams.
