San Diego-based wireless data equipment provider Novatel Wireless has inked two, separate telematics deals, which involve using the company's products in vehicle tracking applications. According to Novatel, it has been selected by Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) to support a fleet management system; VTS develops fleet management systems. Separately, Novatel said it has been selected by HIMEX, a provider of usage-based insurance and fleet management programs. HIMEX develops a platform to monitor fleet driving for the insurance industry. Financial impact of the two deals was not announced, nor were any anticipated shipment volumes from the wins. Novatel develops wireless data modules, used to send data via cellular networks; the company's best known consumer products are its MiFi portable hotspot devices.
