Report: Ring To Pay $5.8M For Mishandling Videos

Santa Monica-based Ring--now part of Amazon--will pay $5.8 million in a fine, for mishandling customer videos. The payment is part of a settlement between Amazon and the U.S. FTC. According to reports, Ring's lax controls on video access gave hundreds of employees and contractors were ability to view, download, and transfer customers’ sensitive video data for their own purpose, including Ring employees accessing "private Ring videos of women", with spying going on for months.
