SkyBell Technologies Wins Video Doorbell Patent Suit

Irvine-based SkyBell Technologies, the owner of a number of patents in the video doorbell and smart home security area, says it has scored a patent infringement lawsuit ruling against Vivint. According to the company, it was awarded $45.4M in a lawsuit against Vivint, in the Eastern District of Texas courts. The company said the federal jury in the case determined that Vivint "willfully infringed upon two of SkyBell's patents". SkyBell says it has more than 150 patents in the area. The Eastern District of Texas is well known as a patent-holder friendly place for lawsuits by patent holders, as well as "patent trolls". SkyBell said it was represetned by Cole Schotz in the litigation.
