SolarFlare Goes Beyond Silicon, Launches Gigabit Ethernet Adapter

Irvine-based SolarFlare, a developer of Gigabit Ethernet silicon, has expanded its offerings beyond silicon into the Gigabit Ethernet adapter market, the firm announced today. The firm--which previously only sold its Gigabit Ethernet semiconductors to OEMs and others--said the move came as a result from "persistent demand" from Fortune 100 companies for server adapters. The firm said the new adapters are an important step in making its adapters available to end users globally. Solarflare said its new Solarstorm, SFN4112F SFP+ 10GbE server adapter is now being deployed in networks at major banks and exchanges, and dozens of proprietary trading firms, hedge funds and alternative trading systems. The firm said it will market the product through channel partners.
