Soylent Banned In Canada

Los Angeles-based meal replacement drink maker Soylent has had its products banned in Canada, the company said on Tuesday, by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). According to Soylent, the CFIA informed the company that its product do not meet Canadian requirements for a "meal replacement". As a result, Soylent said it is unable to continue shipping its Soylent products to Canada for distribution to customers. Soylent said it was "absolutely committed" to working with Health Canada and the CFIA to resolve the issue, but it does not have any timing on when its products may be available again in Canada. Soylent develops a "meal replacement" drink product, which is popular with video gamers and others looking to not waste any time cooking or eating real food. The ban in Canada is not the first time Soylent has run up against government regulators in bringing its products to market: the company also has had a number of earlier recalls of its powder in the U.S. Soylent is venture backed by GV (formerly Google Ventures), Tao Capital Partners, Lerer Hippeau Ventures and Andreessen Horowitz.
