SpaceX To Launch Tesla Roadster To Mars

Hawthorne-based SpaceX will be launching a Tesla Roadster into orbit around Mars, Elon Musk said over the weekend, as part of its very first launch of its Falcon Heavy from Florida next month. SpaceX already has been prepping for the maiden, test flight of its Falcon Heavy, which Musk says will have double the thrust of the next largest rocket available today. Musk said the Roadster will be a "midnight cherry Tesla Roadster playing" David Bowie's song, Space Oddity. This is not the first time SpaceX has sent an unusual payload into space for its test flight; the first flight of the SpaceX Dragon in 2009 contained a wheel of cheese.
