Tranphorm Gets Power Supply Win In Aviation Industry

Goleta-based Transphorm, which develops high voltage, gallium nitride (GaN) power semiconductors, has scored a design win in the aviation industry, saying that customer AES Aircraft Elektro/Elektronik System GmbH has released new power supplies based on its technology. Transphorm said that AES Aircraft Elektro/Elektronik System GmbH has released a new 650 V Ga-N power supply for use in such aircraft as the Airbus A318-A321, A330, A340, A380 and Boeing B767, B787 VIP aircraft. Transphorm says the use of its technology allows for an overall system efficiency gain of more than 10 percent compared with Silicon-based power supply units. Transphorm's backers include Yaskawa Electric Corporation, Bright Capital, Foundation Capital, Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., Google Ventures, Innovation Network Corporation of Japan, KKR, Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Lux Capital, and Nihon Inter Electronics Company.
