Vebu Labs Gets Robot Win At Chipotle, Investment

Chipotle Mexican Grill has unveiled a new, robot that can cut, core, and peel avocados, and made an investment in the robot's creator--El Segundo-based Vebu Labs, Chipotle said this morning. According to Chipotle, the new robot--the Autocado--cuts prep time in half for its signature guacamole, which normally takes 50 minutes. Size of the investment in Vebu Labs was not announced. Vebu Labs is lead by Buck Jordan, who also has been involved in another local, food robotics startup, Miso Robotics. According to Chipotle, the investment in Vebu Labs comes via its venture capital arm, Cultivate Next, which has its own $50M fund. The Autocado apparently turn 25 pounds of avocado into guacamole at a time.
