    Verizon Expands Fiber Network

Verizon yesterday announced that it is expanding its FiOS internet Service across Southern California, with plans to expand into Ventura County and 22 Southern California cities. The company's broadband services will be rolled out this year, and the company said that it plans to hire 3000 to 5000 new employees nationally by the end of this year to expand its fiber network, including 500 full time installation and repair positions and 124 positions at its customer support center in Ventura County. The company provides the broadband service for as low as $34.95 per month, and launched the service in Huntington Beach last summer. Verizon is also planning to launch a TV service based on the same fiber network to compete directly with cable TV providers.
