Virgin Galactic Has Successful Third Test Flight

Virgin Galactic had a third, successful test flight of its VSS Unity spaceship on Thursday from Mojave, the company said this morning, sending the spacecraft to 170,800 feet at 2.47 times the speed of sound. According to Virgin Galactic, the flight is the first for the spacecraft to that altitude, which is classified as the "Mesosphere"--the upper range of balloon flight. The Chief Pilot on the flight was Dave Mackay. The VSS Unity was launched from another aircraft, the VMS Eve, which delivered the VSS Unity to 46,500 feet before launch.
