Amazon Closes $8.5 Billion MGM Acquisition

Amazon said on Thursday that it has completed its $8.5 billion acquisition of MGM, after receiving final approvals from the European Union on the deal. The acquisition deal had been announced in May of last year. The deal makes more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV shows part of Amazon's online streaming service, Amazon Prime Video, and also further increases Amazon's footprint in Hollywood. The companies said the deal will bring such titles as James Bond, Rocky, and Creed, Thelma & Louise, The Silence of the Lambs, The Magnificent Seven, and Raging Bull to Amazon's streaming video platform.
