Bangalore Set To Pass Silicon Valley As Largest IT Employer

Bangalore, India is set to pass Silicon Valley as the largest concentration of IT employees, according to MS Shankaralinge Gowda, an Indian government official. According to the official, Bangalore has 160,000 professionals working in IT, with the number expected to grow to more than 200,000 in 2004-2005, exceeding the number of high tech workers in Santa Clara County, the center of Silicon Valley. Gowda is secretary of IT and biotechnology for the state government of Karnataka. Bangalore is the home of a large number of Indian IT outsourcing and call center firms, as well as the Indian offices of many US-headquartered technology giants.
