CNET Acquires Santa Monica Entertainment Review Site

CNET Networks announced yesterday that it has acquired Santa Monica-based Metacritic, a provider and aggregator of reviews on entertainment, films, video, music, games and books. Terms were not disclosed. Metacritic provides access to reviews across different types of entertainment, organizing and scoring opinions on releases of entertainment titles. The entertainment site reported that it has 170,000 unique visitors per month, who visit the site to read aggregated reviews from well known movie, film, and other critics. CNET said that Mediacritic will continue to be run by the founders, and will be integrated into CNET's entertainment properties, including GameSpot and MP3.com. According to Comscore, CNET attracts more than 24.4 million visitors per month to its entertainment sites. CNET reported that the transaction was not material in terms of financial impact or audience size.
