DataDirect Sets Sights On Cloud Storage
Chatsworth-based DataDirect Networks, a manufacturer of storage systems focused on the high performance market, said Monday that the firm has created a storage system specifically targeted at cloud storage. DataDirect said its new Web Object Scaler (WOS) product is specifically focused on solving performance, scalability, and management problems associated with content creation, storage, and distribution. The firm is focusing its new product on use for storing Internet content, including photo, video, music, social networking, and other sites, as well as use in data intensive applications like bank check processing and medical and document imaging. DataDirect said the new product provides a global namespace for files distributed across multiple sites, provides automated, policy-based distribution of content, and scaling from a few Terabytes to Petabytes of data. DataDirect's storage systems have previously been focused on the high performance computing (HPC) and media and entertainment industry.
