Evolution Robotics Deploys Technology In Cell Phones

Pasadena-based Evolution Robotics announced today that its visual pattern recognition technology has been deployed in cell phones as a part of a mobile visual search tool from Bandai Networks. The firm said that Bandai is using its ViPR visual pattern recognition technology to power a service that allows cell phone users to take a picture of a photo, and get information on where to purchase the items in the picture. Users can then click to access detailed product information or purchase products via the phone. The new service is being deployed in Japan to NTT DoCoMo customers. The search feature is similar to one being developed by another local firm, Santa Monica-based Neven Vision. Evolution Robotics develops visual pattern recognition, robotics technology and software, and a visual recognition system for loss prevention in grocery stores.
