Geno, Aquafil Demonstrate Plant-Based Nylon Production

San Diego-based Genomatica (Geno), a company developing biotechnology to produce nylon using plant-based materials, and its collaborator Aquafil, said they have completed a demonstration scale production run for its plant-based nylon. The company said that the plant-based nylon is being evaluated for use in yarns for textile and carpet and engineering plastics. Geno said it is developing materials and ingredients using plant- or waste-based feedstocks instead of fossil fuels. Aquafil is one of the main producers of nylon in Italy.
