Illumina Buys Edico Genome

San Diego-based life sciences equipment maker Illumina says it has acquired Edico Genome, a developer of data analysis technology for next-generation sequencing (NGS). Financial details of the buy were not disclosed. Edico Genome uses both software and field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology to accelerate data analysis of genomic data. Illumina said it will incorporate Edico Genome's lead product, DRAGEN, into its own tools. Edico Genome was also based in San Diego. Edico Genome was venture backed by Qualcomm Ventures, Axon Ventures and angel investor Greg Lucier (Life Technologies). The company originally had been developing its own ASIC for sequencing and bioinformatics applications. More information »
