LAPD Reports Major Data Breach; Info On Officers, Applicants Compromised

A major data breach at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), appears to have given hackers access to personal information on roughly 2,500 officers and 17,500 applicants to the department, according to a report on Tuesday. According to the report, information included names, dates of birth, partial employee serial numbers, and login details for those officers and applicants. It's unclear who may have hacked the department, however, the report from NBC Los Angeles said the breach only came to light after a hacker emailed the department about the breach and presented some of the details found in those personnel records. The LAPD has approximately 10,000 officers, so approximately a quarter of them appear to be affected by the hacking.
