Carlsbad-based radio frequency chip designer MaxLinear reported a win in Latin America this morning. According to the company, its silicon tuner-demodulator device has been selected by an un-named OEM for use in a new, hybrid satellite plus terrestrial set-top box for the Latin America pay TV market. Financial impact of the deal and expected shipment volumes were not disclosed. MaxLinear said pay TV operators in Latina America have been integrating both broadcast television receivers and satellite set-top-boxes to allow customers to receive both free, local high definition channels as well as satellite broadcasts.
