NovaStor Upgrades Backup Package
Simi Valley-based NovaStor (www.novastor.com) has upgraded its flagship NovaBACKUP software to version 7.1. The new version adds a simple backup and restore wizard, as well as support for CDs, DVDs, tapes, and hard disk in a very wide variety of formats and interfaces. The company's software runs on Windows computers.

SMC Adds Broadband Router
Irvine-based SMC Networks (www.smc.com) announced a new Universal Wireless Cable/DSL Broadband Router. The company's new EZ-Stream router is now available at retailers and integrators. The device supports 802.11a/b/g, and also provides a high bandwidth 802.11a/g Turbo mode.

CinemaNow Tests Net Movie Purchases

Ophthonix Finds $15.5M Second Round
In more San Diego biotech news, Ophthonix (www.ophthonix.com) announced it has raised $15.5M in a round led by Gund Investment Corp. Previous investors Enterprise Partners and Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers also participated. Ophthonix is developing wavefront guided, high definition vision eyeglasses which provide 20/10 visual acuity.

TargeGen Raises $30M B
San Diego-based TargeGen (www.targegen.com) has raised a second round of $30M for its work on developing biopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. The company is working on small molecule therapeutics. Funding came from William Blair Capital Partners, CDP Capital Technology Ventures, as well as previous investors Forward Ventures and Enterprise Partners.
