Enea Supports DSP Core
San Diego-based Enea Embedded Technology (www.ose.com) has added a new real-time kernel and develop tools for LSI Logic ZSP Digital Signal Processing cores. The kernel and tools provide a platform for hosting and developing applications built on LSI's processors. Enea was formerly OSE Systems.

Foothill Ranch-based IMC Networks (www.imcnetworks.com) has released the iMediaChassis/20, a media converter which helps carriers convert between Ethernet, ATM/SONET, T1/E1, DS3/E3, WDM and CWDM networking technologies. The new product allows enterprises and service providers easily support media conversion, distance extension, and more from a single chassis.

ViewSonic Bolsters Board
Walnut-based ViewSonic (www.viewsonic.com) has added two new directors to its board. Matthew E. Massengill, chair and CEO of Western Digital, and William J. Miller, former chair and CEO of Avid Technology will join the board. Miller is also on the board of NVIDIA and Waters Corp.

CinemaNow Licenses Technology to Broadband Service
Marina Del Rey-based CinemaNow (www.cinemanow.com) has licensed its PatchBay technology to Kabushiki Kaisha CODE, a Japanese joint venture between Transcosmos Inc. and Microsoft. CinemaNow's solution will be used to manage CODE's digital and territorial rights protection, pay-per-view and subscription services, as well as administration. CODE is focusing on marketing and wholesaling of pay-per view broadband content.

Sorrento Closes $10M Private Placement
San Diego-based Sorrento Networks (www.sorrentonetworks.com) announced that it has closed a private placement of $10M, which it previously announced. The financing is in addition to a $6.3M round that closed December 31st. Sorrento manufactures optical networking equipment.

VC Report Shows Southern California Drop
The latest VentureOne/Ernst & Young Venture Capital Report shows a drop in venture capital activity in Southern California, despite a modest growth in the overall market. According to figures provided from the report for Southern California, the number of overall deals in the Los Angeles - Orange County - San Diego area dropped from 47 deals in Q3 to 39 deals in Q4.
