ViewSonic Adds VP
Walnut-based ViewSonic announced that it has hired Timothy Ashcroft as corporate vice president of human resources. Ashcroft joins from Qlogic Corp, where he was VP of HR. Viewsonic develops visual display products for a variety of markets, including monitors and displays.

Make It Work Gets Angel Funding
Santa Barbara-based Make It Work said that Brian Coryat has invested in the company. Coryat is the founder of ValueClick. The company did not disclose the amount of the investment. The company also said that it was considering a term sheet for $2M from a strategic investor, and is looking at other funding offers. MakeItWork provides home-based computer support services, targeted at home users who need computer set up and maintenance help.

Vitesse Ships 10Gbps Transceiver
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor announced that it is shipping a new, 10Gbps transceiver IC, designed for SONET and other high speed networking applications. The company's VSC8479 components supports 9.953 Gbps to 11.3 Gbps operation, and what the company says is half the power of existing solutions. The company also said that it has secured design wins in the top five telecom equipment OEMs for the component.

Overture Launches Search Optimizer
Pasadena-based Overture announced the launch of Search Optimizer, a campaign optimization product for maximizing Overture search campaigns. The new product helps advertisers better manage their Overture keyword campaigns, to automatically optimize based on objectives such as cost-per-acquisitoin, cost-per click, or return on ad spend. CinemaNow Raises $11M
Santa Monica-based CinemaNow has raised $11M in Series D funding from Menlo Ventures. Cisco Systems and existing investor Lions Gate Entertainment also participated. CinemaNow provides online, video-on-demand content and distribution services, and has inked licenses with such studios as Disney, Fox, Lions Gate, MGM, Miramax, and Warner Bros. to provide feature films via broadband. Mannkind Estimates Offering Price
Valencia-based MannKind has estimated an offering price between $13.00 and $15.00 per share in an IPO filing with the SEC. The offering, for 5.5M shares of stock, is expected to raise up to $94.8M for the company. MannKind develops therapeutic products for diabetes, cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The company is headed by billionaire Alfred Mann. The IPO is being underwritten by UBS, Piper Jaffray, Wachovia, Jeffries & Co, and Harris Nesbitt.
