Breach Ships New Security Appliance
Carlsbad-based Breach Security has added a new security appliance. The company's BreachGate Detect product protects commercial applications from attacks by providing application layer network security. According to the company, the appliance monitors and controls traffic as it enters and leaves applications, and is focused on preventing identity theft, information leakage, and privacy infringement. The new BreachGate Detect security appliance is available now and starts at $25,000.

Broadcom Extends Wireless LAN Coverage
Irvine-based Broadcom has expanded its line of wireless chips with a new 54g wireless LAN chipset. The new chips enable a greater range of WiFi connectivity, with distances of up to 50 percent greater than previous solutions. Broadcom said that its new single-chip 802.11g client solution and system-on-a-chip router use a technique to better receive transmissions and extends the maximum range of WiFi signals. WaterHealth International Raises $1.8M
Lake Forest-based WaterHealth International said that it has received $1.8M in new funding from the International Finance Corporation and Acumen Fund. The company is developing water purification and disinfection systems, targeted initially at developing countries and elsewhere. The two funds involved are non-profit organizations which use a venture capital model to invest in socially responsible companies. Tech Coast Angels Partners With National Angel Association
The Tech Coast Angels has announced that they are working with the National Angel Capital Association to help the group develop best practices for managing deal flow, due diligence, and post-investment follow up. The groups said that they will be working to provide new tools for portfolio management and mentoring entrepreneurs. TCA founder Luis Villalobos will also join the Angel Capital Association's board. Napster, Blockbuster Create Combined Rental Card
Los Angeles-based Naspter and home electronics giant Blockbuster announced this morning that the two companies have created a new Digital Duo card that offers both digital music and online DVD rentals. The card will be available at RadioShack stores, and provides unlimited access to Napster's song library, and unlimited Blockbuster online DVD rentals for a month.
