Nanogen Invests In Gene Marker Company
San Diego-based Nanogen announced this morning that it has made an investment in Jurilab Ltd., a Finnish company that focuses on the discovery and identification of new genes and gene markers. The investment gives Nanogen rights to develop diagnostic products based on the genes and gene markers discovered by Jurilab. The company said that the initial efforts will be on cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, including adult onset diabetes. The investment is worth $1.25M euros for less than a 20% (More info...)

Vitesse Expands In Taiwan
Camarillo-based Vitesse Semiconductor announced this morning that it has expanded in Taiwan and has opened a customer technology center in Taipei. Vitesse said that customers there will have access to technology design equipment and a veteran team of application engineers. The center will serve the next generation communications and storage markets. The firm said that the location of the center is central to its OEMs and other customers in the region.

Conexant Ships SoC For Fiber-to-the-Home
Newport Beach-based Conexant Systems has shipped a new, system-on-a-chip targeting the fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-neighborhood market. The semiconductor maker said that it shipping an integrated Xenon system-on-a-chip (SoC) that provides a complete system for optical network terminals. The chip can be used for cost effective, high-speed broadband optical connections, based on Passive Optical Network (PON) technology. Digital Power Companies Launch Site
A group of digital power companies, including Atmel, C&D Technologies, and Camarillo-based Power-One have launched a new web site and group around digital power technology. The new group, Z-Alliance, has launched z-alliance.org to promote the companies interoperable digital-power products. The group is collaborating on integrated power conversion and management products, and says that it is a collaborative effort to educate and advance the use of digital power systems. PriceRunner Launches In The U.S.
Westlake Village-based ValueClick today said that its PriceRunner division is launching its shopping comparison site here in the United States. PriceRunner is one of the leading comparison shopping sites in Europe. ValueClick said that the site went live in the second quarter, and is targeted at consumers shopping for everything from clothing and accessories, to home appliances and sports and outdoor products. Primarion Raises Venture Round
Torrance-based Primarion, a developer of digital power and I/O mixed signal semiconductors, said yesterday that it has raised an additional investment in its Series D equity funding from W Capital Partners. The round also included investments from existing investors Accel Partners, APV Technology Partners, and Lehman Brothers.
