Luxury Link Raises $9M
Los Angeles-based Luxury Link, a provider of online luxury travel services, has raised $9M in a venture capital funding and shareholder buyout. The firm said Wednesday that it received the funding from San Francisco Equity Partners and El Dorado Ventures. The financing will be used for customer acquisition and brand awareness. Juice Wireless Finds $4M
New York-based Juice Wireless, which maintains its operations and research and development office in the Los Angeles area, has received $4M in funding. The firm, which is headed by David Herman, founder of Hollywood Stock Exchange, develops mobile applications and services. Funding came from 21Ventures. Reunion.com Acquires MyAddressBook.com, Settles Patent Suit
Los Angeles-based Reunion.com has acquired My Address Book LLC, the operator of MyAddressBook.com, an online web site that allows consumers to create an online address book with automatic updating. Financial terms were not disclosed. The acquisition settles a patent infringement lawsuit that Reunion.com brought against My Address Book. Sony Exec: Music Industry Is Losing The Battle Against Piracy
A Sony executive in charge of the company's technology strategy believes that the music industry is not making headway against music pirates, despite the industry's extensive efforts to halt piracy. In a heated debate at the Digital Media Summit in Los Angeles Wednesday, Sony executive Albhy Galuten said that he does not believe the music industry is winning the battle against pirating, in any palpable way. PLX Systems Acquired by Access Integrated Technologies
Los Angeles-based PLX Systems, a provider of enterprise software for managing intellectual property (IP) assets, has been acquired. Access Integrated Technologies said today that it will acquire the firm, and operate it as a unit of AccessIT. AccessIT said that PLX CEO Gary Bishop and several members of the PLX management team will join the firm as part of the acquisition. Xerox Funds UCSB Project
Xerox has invested $200K in a UC Santa Barbara project, as part of the company's support of universities in the US, Canada, and Europe. Xerox said yesterday that it has provided a research grant to the University of California-Santa Barbara for investigation of next-generation image enhancement algorithms. LogicalApps Gets Win At BMO
Irvine-based LogicalApps has scored a win at BMO Financial Group, to provide automated enforcement for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. LogicalApps said that BMO will use its software for theh compliance market to manage automation of compliance processes in Oracle's E-Business suite. BMO said that it was using the LogicalApps software because it dramatically cuts the time auditors spend reviewing paper-based reports, reducing routine audit lengths from two months to two days. SmartSound Adds Universal Binary Support
Chatsworth-based SmartSound Software, a provider of music scoring technology for film and video, has rolled out an update to its software. The firm said that its SmartSound Sonicfire Pro 4 software now includes universal binary support for the new Mac, Intel-based platform. The updated software is used for adding music to Avid and Final Cut Pro video editing software, and is tied to the company's own library of royalty-free music.
