Infomercial Firm Guthy-Renker Invests in RealtyTracker
Los Angeles-based RealtyTracker, an online lead generation service for the real estate industry, has received an investment from infomercial firm Guthy-Renker. The firms said Thursday that they have entered into a strategic partnership where Guthy-Renker will invest in RealtyTracker. Financial terms were not disclosed. Skype Adds Wi-Fi Phones
Internet calling service Skype is partnering with four hardware vendors to provide WiFi enabled phones for the company's popular service. The company said today that it will be adding hardware from Compton-based Belkin, Accton, NETGEAR, and SMC to the firm's online store this quarter. The phones will allow users to connect to Skype through any pubicly accessible Wi-Fi access point that does not require browser authentication. Boingo Buys Airport WiFi Operator
Santa Monica-based Boingo Wireless has acquired Concourse Communications Group, a provider of airport wireless access sytems. Boingo said yesterday that it has officially completed the acquisition of Concourse, which was announced in May, as of June 27th. Boingo said that it has retained almost all Concourse employees in conjunction with the purchase. Qualcomm Announces Results
San Diego-based Qualcomm has reported its third quarter 2006 results, posting revenues of $1.95 billion, and net income of $643 million. The telecommunications giant's revenues were up 6 percent from the prior quarter, and up 44 percent from the prior year. Net income was up 8 percent quarter-to-quarter, and up 15 percent from the prior year. Qualcomm said that its strong results were driven by customer deman for its 1xEV-DO and WCDMA chipsets. Activison Sued By Shareholder
Santa Monica-based Activision has been sued by an individual claiming to be a shareholder, claiming that the firm improperly issued stock options. In a regulatory filing, Activision said that a complaint was filed on July 12th against the firm in Los Angeles Superior Court, purportedly on behalf of the Company, against certain current and former members of the Company's Board of Directors as well as several current and former officers of the Company. Oversee.net Buys Domain Name Aggregators
Los Angeles-based Oversee.net has acquired two small domain name aggregators, the firm announced this morning. Oversee said that it has acquired CareerSeeker.com and Dreamvacations.com. Terms were not disclosed. The purchase now brings Oversee's collection of domain names to more than a million. Gizmo Project Makes Landline Calls Free
San Diego-based SIPphone, which maintains the Gizmo open source Voice-over-IP calling software, said today that it is making calling to landlines and mobile phones in sixty countries free. The firm said that active Gizmo Project users can now make unlimited calling using the company's Internet calling software. TherMark Buys Laser Marking Technology
Los Angeles-based TherMark Holdings, an angel-backed developer of laser marking technology, has purchased assets from Pittsburgh-based Advanced Identification. TherMark said that the purchase includes a customer database, existing product inventory, and personnel with process and laser marking knowledge. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Semtech To Restate Results
Camarillo-based Semtech said today that it will restate its historical financial statements, as a result of stock-based compensation. The firm had reported earlier that it has been in an internal review of its stock option practices, after receiving an informal SEC inquiry into the firm. Dot Hill Appoints CFO
Carlsbad-based Dot Hill Systems has hired a new CFO, saying this week that it has hired Hanif I. Jamal as Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Corporate Secretary. Jamal joins the firm from Gateway, where he was VP and Corporate Treasurer. Jamal has also served at Hewlett Packard. Dot Hill is a manufacturer of storage systems sold to the enterprise market.
