LogicalApps In Alliance With PwC
Irvine-based LogicalApps, a provider of software used for monitoring regulatory compliance and corporate governance, has inked a deal with accounting giant PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. PwC and LogicalApps said Wednesday morning that the two are in a strategic alliance, where PwC and LogicalApps will provide software and implementation services to their clients. WFI Closes Sales Of Wireless Deployment Business
San Diego-based WFI said Tuesday that it has closed on its sale of its wireless deployment system to private equity firm Platinum Equity. The sale, which was announced earlier this month, was worth $24M, made up of $18M in cash plus $6M in earnout over the next three years. WFI said that the deal included all of its wireless deployment business and Wireless Facilities name; WFI is transitioning its name and business into the information technology and defense business.

NovaCardia Acquired By Merck
San Diego-based NovaCardia, a biopharmaceutical firm developing treatments for cardiovascular disease, has been acquired by Merck & Co. in a $350M deal. Merck said today that it is in a definitive agreement to acquire NovaCardia in an all-stock deal. Merck said that it will acquire all of the outstanding equity of NovaCardia for $350M plus amount of cash on hand. Q4bis Raises $6M
Irvine-based Q4bis, a provider of software used for business intelligence, said late Tuesday that it has raised $6M in a venture round from TVC Capital. Q4Bis said that the Series A funding will enable the firm to expand its business. Steve Hamerslag and Jeb Spencer of TVC will join the firm's board as part of the funding. Q4bis develops software used to analyze data in ERP and database systems. Q4bis was founded in 2003 and has more than fifty employees.

Multi-Factor Authentication Gets $4.5M
Irvine-based Multi-Factor Authentication, a company developing technology for multi-factor security for web sites, said today that it has raised $4.5M in a private placement. The firm said the funding came from a group of accredited investors, but did not identify its backers. Multi-Factor Authentication is developing user authentication technology that can be used to authenticate online users without requiring a token.

Userplane Rolls Out Chat Component
Santa Monica-based Userplane, a developer of web-based tools for online community web sites, said this morning that it has unveiled a new "Minichat" embedded application, which shows current chat activity taking place in Userplane's Webchat tool. The new embedded widget can be placed on any web page to show live conversation in Userplane's chat application. Helio Ties Into Exchange
Los Angeles-based MVNO Helio said today that it has launched a feature which connects the firm's services to Microsoft Exchange. The firm said that it now connects its Ocean handheld with Microsoft Exchange email, calendars, and contacts from corporate servers. The support for the popular email server cones as a downloadable client for Helio's Ocean handset, and will cost its members $9.99 per month. Novatel Wireless, ICG Partner On Digital Signage
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless and Lake Forest based Internet Connectivity Group (ICG) said today that the two are in a deal to deploy digital signage at gas stations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The two said they will bring media content to the gas stations by linking ICG's Mobile Media System with Novatel's wireless cards. Novatel's cards are used to connect PCs to the Internet using cellular connections. ICG's products connect cellular data connects into wireless LANs.

Inphi Ties Into AMD
Westlake Village-based Inphi, a developer of high speed semiconductors, said that it is collaborating with AMD on development of the firm's DDR3 memory components. Inphi said that AMD and system OEMs are working with the company to define its IN16KXMX Socket G3 Memory Extender family, a low power DDR3 memory interface designed for use with AMD's next generation processors. CinemaNow Adds BMG, Others To Site
CinemaNow, the Marina Del Rey-based video on demand site, said Tuesday afternoon that it has signed new licensing agreements with Sony BMG Music Entertainment, EMI, and Sanctuary Records. CinemaNow will offer music videos and concert performances from such artists as David Bowie, Coldplay, Morrissey, and Norah Jones through its WatchMusicHere.com web site and its main video download site. Gemstar-TV Guide Signs Customer
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide International said today that it has signed a patent license agreement with Decisionmark Corp, for its TitanTV web site. TitanTV has licensed Gemstar's interactive program guides, which it will offer on its web site. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Gemstar-TV Guide provides interactive programming guide technology which it licenses to other companies. TitanTV is an online television search site.
