Earthlink, SK Telecom To Invest $270M In Helio
Earthlink confirmed Friday morning that the firm will invest $270M alongside SK Telecom in Los Angeles-based Helio. Earthlink reported that MVNO Helio now has 130,000 subscribers as of the end of August., and revenues of $140 to $170M. However, Earthlink also reported that Helio will have a full year net loss of $340 to $360M. Helio operates a mobile telephone and data service geared towards the youth market, and is headed by Earthlink founder Sky Dayton.

Broadcom Links With Mobile Linux Group
Irvine-based Broadcom said earlier this week that it has linked into the LiMo Foundation, a group which is promoting Linux-based, mobile operating systems. The semiconductor manufacturer joins Motorola, NEC, NTT DoCoMo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics and Vodafone, in an effort to create a unified, Linux OS specifically designed for mobile devices. Slacker Inks Deals With Music Labels
San Diego-based Slacker, the online personalized music streaming startup backed by Austin Ventures, Centennial Ventures, Mission Ventures, and Sevin Rosen, announced a number of music content deals with music labels Thursday afternoon. Prolacta Bioscience Appoints VP
Monrovia-based Prolacta Bioscience, a venture-backed firm which supplies a milk fortifier for premature and critically ill infants, said earlier this week that it has named Ellen N. Cushing as VP of Sales and Marketing. Prolacta uses human milk to supplement the nutrition of infants, and are made from human donors. Activision Names HR Head
Santa Monica-based Activision said earlier this week that it has named Ann Weiser as Chief Human Resources Officer. Weiser joins the company from U.S. Foodservice, where she was chief human resource officer. Weiser has also served at U.S. Office Products, Mainer Post-Acute Network, and Kraft. Activision said that Weiser will be responsible for human resources strategies and policies for the firm's worldwide operations. FastCall411 Expands Advisory Board
Los Angeles-based FastCall411, a provider of local search products, said earlier this week that it has added a number of members to its advisory board. The firm also said that it will be presenting its products at DEMOfall 07, the closely watched new products and companies conference next week. SMC Networks Gets Wi-Fi Certification
Irvine-based SMC Networks has scored certification for its products on the new 802.11n draft 2.0 Wi-Fi certification, the firm said Thursday. The certification for its SMC Barricade Gigabit Broadband Router and EZ Connect Wireless USB2.0 Adapters means that the firm's products adhere to the Wi-Fi Alliance testing and certification program.
