Quest Software Buys PassGo Technologies
Aliso Viejo-based Quest Software said Wednesday afternoon that it has inked a deal to buy PassGo Technologies, a British firm which provides access and identity management software. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. PassGo develops Active Directory software for the IBM zSeries, iSeries (S/390 and AS/400), and Unix systems. PassGo's CEO John Rainford will become VP of PassGo Produts at Quest Software. Quest said that the deal is expected to close in early 2008.

Bid4Spots Adds New Radio Auction Feature
Encino-based Bid4Spots, which runs online reverse auctions of radio airtime, said Tuesday that it has added a new feature to help its advertisers buy unused radio inventory. According to Bid4Spots, its new SpotFill feature will allow advertisers to pick up remaining, unsold spots in their target market after the close of an auction. Linspire Releases New Software Delivery Service
San Diego-based Linspire, which develops desktop focused Linux operating system distributions, said yesterday that it has launched a beta of CNR.com, a web site targeted at helping Linux users find software. According to Linspire, the new site will spuport finding both Debian and RPM-based Linux distributions. The new service is similar to Linspire's CNR desktop software, which is packaged with the firm's Linspire and Freespire OS distributions for installing and finding Linux software. NTI In New York City Pilot
Sherman Oaks-based NTI Group, a company which provides mass communications services to cities and companies, said Wednesday that it has launched a new pilot program in New York City. Financial impact of the pilot was not disclosed. NTI said the new service will offer city officials with ability to communicate with residents on public safety matters; the pilot covers the Northeast Bronx and Southwest Staten Island. LATimes.com Buys Stake In Social News Firm
The Los Angeles Times Media Group said Tuesday that it has taken a small equity stake in Mixx, a McLean, Virginia-based firm which provides personalization and social media tools for publishers. Financial terms were not disclosed. According to the LA Times, the deal comes as part of an effort to add social networking and personalization to the newspaper's web site. AMO Expands Board
Santa Ana-based Advanced Medical Optics said today that it has added Daniel J. Heinrich and G. Mason Morfit to the firm's board of directors. Heinrich is a partner at ValueAct Capital Partners, AMO's largest stockholder; MOrfit is on the board of MSD Performance and Valeant Pharmaceuticals. Advanced Medical Optics is a provider of opthalmic surgery and eye care products. The two new board members brings the company's total board to 10 members.
