UCSB Ramps Spinoff Efforts
The University of California Santa Barbara said Tuesday that the firm has launched a new program to accelerate the creation of spin-off businesses from the University's research. According to UCSB, its new Venture Acceleration Initiative (VAI) program is focused on the process of moving technology from the lab to commercialization. Dot Hill Gets Win In Germany
Carlsbad-based Dot Hill Systems, a developer of storage arrays and related products, said Tuesday that it has entered into an OEM agreement with Stordis GmbH. Stordis, which is a German distributor of storage and networking products, will integrate Dot Hill's modular storage systems into its Stordis' Snapstor storage array family. Financial impact of the deal were not disclosed. Dot Hill Systems disk arrays provide RAID capability based on SAS and SATA II disk drives.

Apani Expands In Massachusetts
Brea-based Apani, a provider of security software used for isolating enterprise servers, said Tuesday that the firm has opened up an East Coast R&D office. According to Apani, the new office in Southborough, Mass. will tap into the high tech talent pool and university research in the Boston area; the new office will focus on advanced product development for the company. The company also said the office will provide engineering services and support for East Coast customers.

Sendio Appoints Bowyer New CEO
Irvine-based Sendio said late last night that the firm has appointed Kevin Bowyer as the firm's CEO. Bowyer was most recently the firm's Senior Vice President of Sales and Service. Bowyer has previously served at Cogen Global Services, Mitel Networks, and Nortel Networks. Bowyer has been at Sendio since February of 2007. Sendio is a developer of an email appliance which blocks spam and viruses using sender authentication, and is venture backed by Kline Hawkes California, LP and Momentum Venture (More info...)

Soraa Gets Investment From Khosla Ventures
Goleta-based Soraa, a firm developing solid state lighting systems, has quietly raised a round of funding from Khosla Ventures. The round was disclosed in the announcement of the addition of Ford Tamer to Khosla Ventures' team. Soraa is also known as SJS Technology, and is reportedly in the midst of a $5M fund raise, according to regulatory filings cited by PEHub.

QLogic, LSI Certify InfiniBand Products
Aliso Viejo-based storage hardware manufacturer QLogic and data storage firm LSI Corporation said today that the two companies have cross-certified the firms' Infiniband-based networking products. The firms said that LSI's InfiniBand-based storage systems have been certified with QLogic's InfiniBand networking products as part of a partnership program. InfiniBand is a high speed networking standard being used for high performance and cluster computing.
