NextWave Looks To Sell Spectrum, Hires Investment Banks
San Diego-based NextWave Wireless, a provider mobile multimedia and wireless broadband technology, said late Wednesday that it has retained Deutsche Bank and UBS Investment Bank, to explore the sale of the firm's spectrum holdings in the United States. Nextwave Wireless said that its spectrum--which covers New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Denver, Houston, and Detroit--reaches over 251 million people. Demand Media Buys Food Website
Los Angeles-based Demand Media, the social media firm headed by former MySpace chairman Richard Rosenblatt, has acquired another vertical web site, The Daily Plate. The Daily Plate provides diet information, calorie counting, forums, and other content around dieting and eating. Gorilla Nation Targets Midsize Websites
Los Angeles-based Gorilla Nation is targeting mid-sized websites with a new service, the firm announced Wednesday. The firm said that it has rolled out the new product--Midtail Toolbox--targeting midsize websites, which the firm defines as sites with between 15 million and 1 million unique visitors a month. Airgain Hires Sales VP
Carlsbad-based Airgain, a developer of smart antennas, said today that it has hired on Alan Frank as the firm's VP of Worldwide Sales. Frank joins the firm from Semtech, where he was Director of Western Sales. Airgain said that Frank will be responsible for cultivating and maintaining the company’s relationships with OEM and ODM customers in North America, Asia, Europe, and around the globe. AtomicOnline Acquires theFashionSpot
Los Angeles-based AtomicOnline said today that it has acquired theFashionSpot, an online website focused on fashion and fashion designers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. According to AtomicOnline, theFashionSpot currently has over 1 million unique visitors each month, with close to 70,000 registered users. theFashionSpot's web site provides community message forums, news, and other information about fashion designers and collections, and was founded in July of 2001. Yellowpages.com Appoints President
Local Web search service Yellowpages.com reported Tuesday that it has appointed David Krantz president. Krantz will work from Yellowpages.com's headquarters in Glendale. He succeeds Charles Stubbs, who Yellowpages.com said is leaving to pursue other interests. Krantz has spent the past five years with AT&T, which owns Yellowpages.com.
