MySpace Links To Hulu With Widget
Los Angeles-based MySpace said Wednesday that the firm has launched a new application which links user profiles on the social networking site to the Hulu video site. According to MySpace, the new MySpace Primetime Application allows users to embed videos from Hulu and MySpaceTV on their profiles and home pages. Agility Studios Launches, Gets Private Equity Backing
Los Angeles-based Agility Studios said Wednesday that the firm has launched a new entertainment studio focused on digital media. According to the firm, it was founded by Scott Ehrlich, Larry Tanz, and Keith Quinn, and will focus on transforming digital media firms into viable businesses. Tanz and Quinn are from LivePlanet, and Ehrlich was formerly at RealNetworks. 8e6 Merges With UK Firm
Orange, California-based 8e6 Technologies, a supplier of web filtering appliances for the SMB and education market, said Wednesday that it has merged with UK-based Marshal. According to the firms, they are merging to form a new company called Marshal8e6. Financial details of the merger were not disclosed. UltiZen Bolsters Chinese Operations
Shanghai, China- and Los Angeles-based UltiZen Games Ltd., which provides game development and outsourcing, is investing $3.5M in its game studios in China, the firm said Wednesday. UltiZen said it would open a new $1.5M studio in Suzhou, China, and invest the remaining $2.0M in its current Shanghai and Beijing studios. Flipswap Lands $14M In Series B Funding
Los Angeles-based FlipSwap, which operates an electronics trade-in service for mobile phones and other electronics, said Wednesday that it has raised $14M in a Series B funding round. OpenCandy Raises $3.5M
San Diego-based OpenCandy, a new startup focused on software recommendations and downloads, said this morning that it has raised $3.5M in a venture capital funding. According to OpenCandy, the funding round came from Bessemer Venture Partners, O'Reilly Alphatech Ventures, and Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn and Jordan Greenhall of DivX. Jazz Semi Licenses Technology To Fujitsu
Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor said today that it has licensed its high-precision RF models and design kits for RF to Fujitsu Microelectronics Limited. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Jazz, which is now a unit of Tower Group, said the license deal will provide an ongoing royalty revenue stream to the firm. ESET Ships Antivirus Software For Smartphones
San Diego-based ESET, a developer of antivirus software, has set its sight on the mobile market, and has begun shipping a new software product aimed at smart phone users. According to ESET, it has begun shipping a new software product to protect against malware and SMS threats for Windows Mobile devices, ESET Mobile Antivirus. Escalate Retail, Where 2 Get It Partner
San Diego-based Escalate Retail, and Anaheim-based Where 2 Get It are announcing this morning that the two firms are in a partnership. Escalate Retail, which develops ecommerce software, and Where 2 Get It, which develops software for mapping out retail locations, said they will integrate Where 2 Get It's tools in Escalate's Blue Martini software.
