Broadcom Bumps Offer For Emulex To $912M
Irvine-based Broadcom said late Monday that it has raised its bid for Emulex Corp. from $9.25 a share to $11.00 per share in cash. The new offer boosts the value of Broadcom's hostile bid for Emulex to $912M, up from $764M that the firm had offered previously. In a statement, Broadcom said the offer was the "best offer" it intends to make, and that if it is unable to complete its acquisition, it will "move on." Livestrong.com: 1.5M Registered Users, 4.2M Uniques
Los Angeles-based Livestrong.com, the online, fitness site run by Demand Media and the Lance Armstrong Foundation, reported Monday that the firm has more than 4.2 million unique monthly visitors and now has over 1.5 million registered users. The site--which features Web 2.0-style content, including social media, user generated content, discussion forums, and more--released the numbers as the firm hit its one year anniversary. Ambit Biosciences Gets $6.4M In Debt
San Diego-based Ambit Biosciences, a developer of small molecule profiling tools being used for biopharmaceuticals development, has raised $6.5M in an ongoing, debt round, according to a filing from the firm today. Details on the debt round were not released by the company, however, according to the firm's filing, it is raising up to $19.7M in debt, including warrants in the firm. Concerro Acquires Business Line
San Diego-based Concerro, a provider of workforce management software, said today that it has acquired all of the product assets and related intellectual property of Los Angeles-based PortBlue's CommandAware hospital incident management systems business. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. CommandAware is software used for preparing for and managing disaster and incident response. Concerro was formerly known as Bidshift.

Nirvanix Powers NASA Mission
San Diego-based Nirvanix, a provider of cloud-based storage services, announced this morning that the firm has scored a win as part of a NASA mission, to store a copy of all of the data from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) in its services. According to Nirvanix, its CloudNAS network attacked storage gateway is being used by NASA to store a copy of all of the data which will be acquired by the LRO. ParAccel Raises $22M
San Diego- and Cupertino-based ParAccel, a developer of software for massively parallel databases used for data warehousing analytics, announced today that it has raised $22M in a venture capital round. The round came from Menlo Ventures, as well as prior ivestors Bay Partners, Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV), Tao Venture Partners and Walden International. According to ParAccel, Menlo's John W. Breach Security Teams With Networking Firm
Carlsbad-based Breach Security, a developer of web and network security tools, announced today that it has partnered with Gigamon, a provider of networking products. The firm said that Gigamon's products--which are used to divert network traffic to security and monitoring software--can be used to help route information to Breach Security's WebDefense software. The two said the partnership would result in tighter web application security for their customers.

Xencor Adds To Advisory Board
Monrovia, California-based Xencor, a company developing antibodies, said today that it has named Jeffrey Ravetch, M.D., Ph.D., to its Scientific Advisory Board. Ravetch is a professor at the Leonard Wagner Laboratory of Molecular Genetics and Immunology at The Rockefeller University. The firm said that Ravetch will provide the firm with guidance on its products; Ravetch is an expert on antibody mechanisms, and specifically FC receptors, which are the area which Xencor is focused on.

HireRight Expands Services
Irvine-based HireRight, a provider of online, employment screening services and software, announced this morning that the firm has upgraded its HireRight Enterprise offering.
