Websense Names New CFO, Sales VP
San Diego-based WebSense, a developer of email and web security products, announced Tuesday afternoon that it has appointed Arthur S. Locke as its Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and appointed Didier Guibal as its Executive Vice President of Worldwide Sales. Locke replaces Doug Wride, who the firm said will remain as Chief Operating Officer of the firm at least through the end of 2009. eSolar Adds $5M
Pasadena-based solar thermal power technology developer eSolar has expanded a recent funding round to $35M, according to a regulatory filing by the company today. Novatel Updates Mobile Hotspot Product
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless said Tuesday that the firm has rolled out a version of the firm's mobile hotspot hardware, which works with North American carriers. The firm's hardware--which rolled out in Europe in June--allows cellular subscribers to create their own, mini WiFi hotspots with up to five connections. The new MiFi 2372 HSPA products supports HSPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS networks.

aTyr Pharma Gets $12M
San Diego-based aTyr Pharma, which is developing biopharmaceuticals focused on inflammation, autoimmune, hematopoietic and metabolic disorders, disclosed Tuesday that it has raised $12M in an additional funding round. The firm said the funding came from existing investors, which include Alta Partners, Cardinal Partners, Polaris Ventures and Paul Schimmel. The funding comes on top of $12M from the same venture backers back in April of 2007.

AudioMicro Expands Sound Effect Library
Los Angeles-based AudioMicro.com, which operates an online marketplace for royalty-free music and sound effects, said Tuesday morning that it has added another 55,000 sound effects in a licensing deal with The Hollywood Edge. AudioMicro said that the sound effects also include material from Soundelux. Both The Hollywood Edge and Soundelux are owned by CSS Studios. Coda Automotive Raises $24M
Santa Monica-based Coda Automotive, the electrical vehicle firm developing hybrid and electric vehicles, has racked up $24M in a Series B investment round from a number of high profile investors, the firm said today. Qualcomm, Verizon In Joint Venture
San Diego-based Qualcomm and telecom provider Verizon Wireless are in a deal around wireless communications for smart devices, the two said today. According to the two, they will work on machine-to-machine wireless communications offerings through a yet-to-be-named joint venture. The two will be equal owners in the new company, which will connect devices in the healthcare, manufacturing, utilities, distribution, and consumer products area via wireless networks. Kofax Gets $200K Win
Irvine-based Kofax, a developer of document capture systems, announced today that it has won a $200,000 contract from a shipping container firm. Kofax did not disclose the name of the customer, but said the customer, one of the five largest container shipping companies, will use the firm's software to capture, extract, and process invoices send to the firm.

CaseStack Hits Shipping Milestone
Santa Monica-based CaseStack, a provider of third party logistics for manufacturers, reported Monday that the firm has fulfilled its one millionth order. The firm, which just hit its 10-year anniversary, is headed by Dan Sanker. CaseStack provides outsourced, supply chain management for manufacturers, handling shipping and logistics for consumer product goods. Central Desktop Adds Greathouse To Board
Pasadena-based Central Desktop, which operates an online team project management service, said today that it has added John Greathouse to the firm's board of directors. Greathouse is a venture partner at Rincon Venture Partners, a faculty member at UC Santa Barbara, and has also previously served as an executive at Citrix Online, Callwave, and Computer Motion. Privately held Central Desktop's software-as-a-service offers project management and other web-centric, collaboration tools for teams.
