Electric Vehicle Suppliers Team For CODA Powertrain
Two suppliers for the vehicle market, UQM Technologies and BorgWarner, announced today that they have teamed up to develop electric powertrains for Santa Monica-based CODA Automotive's upcoming, electric five-passenger sedan. UQM--based out of Colorado--and BorgWarner--based in Michigan--said they will integrate UQM's electric propulsion systems with transmissions from BorgWarner, as part of an effort to supply CODA. DivX Signs Realtek
San Diego-based DivX has signed on semiconductor firm Realtek as a licensee of its DivX Plus technology, the firm said Thursday. Financial details of the license were not disclosed. DivX Plus is the firm's high-definition video encoding format, which supports up to 1080p, H.264 video with AAC audio. DivX said that Realtek will incorporate the technology into its Realtek RTD1283/RTD1073 chips.

Metabasis Hires Investment Bank
San Diego-based Metabasis, a developer of biopharmaceuticals for treating metabolic diseases, announced this morning that it has hired investment bank Merriman Curhan Ford, to "evaluate strategic alternatives." Metabasis has been desperately looking for either financing or a buyer all year, saying in May that it had cut 85 percent of its employees, and was running short on cash. FLO TV Names Corporate Development VP
San Diego-based FLO TV, the subsidiary of Qualcomm which operates the FLO TV mobile TV service, said it has named Alice Kim to Senior Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development Thursday. Kim was most recently Senior Vice President of Digital Distribution at MTV Networks, and has also served at Dean Witter Reynolds, CIBC Capital Partners, Dolphin Equity, Enpocket, and Precache. FLO TV said Kim will be responsible for overseeing strategic development initiatives at the firm.

Novatel Wireless Boosts Board
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless, which develops wireless broadband cards and other products, announced this morning that it has added Russell C. Gerns to its board of directors. Gerns has served at Scientific Data Systems/Xerox, Computer Machinery Corporation, Cipher Data Products, and Rexon/Legacy Storage Systems. BakBone Gets Win With GameStreamer
San Diego-based BakBone Software, a developer of data backup products, said this morning that the firm's products have been selected by GameStreamer, a provider of digital distribution for games. BakBone said GameStreamer will use the firm's BakBone NetVault: Replicator product for real-time replication across its three major data centers. Financial details of the win were not disclosed.
