Bestcovery.com Rolls Out Web Widget
Santa Monica-based Bestcovery.com, an online expert review and ranking site headed by former Pricegrabber.com co-founder and CEO, Kamran Pourzanjani, said today that it has rolled out a new widget which will allow web publishers to display its content. The new widget ties its expert reviews alongside content from Pricegrabber, which recommends those products based on the expert's pick. Bestcovery was started in 2008, and has 8 employees. Geni Bundles Gifts With Pro Subscriptions
Los Angeles-based Geni, the Web 2.0 online genealogy and family tree web site, has rolled out a number of updates today, including a bundling of its virtual gifts with its "Pro" subscription. According to Geni, all Geni Pro subscriptions now include unlimited virtual gifts, the firm's virtual items which can be sent to other members of the service. Overtone Raises $2.4M
Overtone, a developer of software-as-a-service tools for monitoring customer sentiment, has raised $2.48M out of a $5.3M funding round, according to a regulatory filing from the firm Thursday. Details on the funding have not been announced. The firm--which has locations in both Carlsbad and San Francisco--has previously raised funding from ABS Ventures, Dolphin Equity Partners, and Encinal Capital Management. M86 Security Updates Appliances
Orange-based M86 Security--until recently known as Marshal8e6--said Thursday that it has updated its appliance products. According to M86, its Professional Edition appliances include easier wizard-based installation, new look and feel, and better flexibility in setting up security policy. M86 develops appliance used by schools, companies, and others to filter out inappropriate web sites, as well as report on web usage by companies. Los Angeles Among Top Areas For Green Jobs
A report released this week from analyst firm Clean Edge, Inc., finds that the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County metro is number two on the list of geographies with the most clean-tech job activity. In the report--which evaluated current and historical job postings, early stage and public market investment activity, clean tech patents, and other factors--The LA-Riverside-OC Metro ranked just behind San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose, nationwide, in clean tech jobs. Arkeia Opens German Offices
San Diego-based backup software provider Arkeia Software announced today that it has expanded its operations in Germany, and opened up an office in Berlin. According to the firm, the new office will serve its customers and resellers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. Arkeia is a developer of backup and disaster recovery software for Linux, Windows, and other operation systems.

EdgeCast: We're In The Black
Los Angeles-based content delivery network firm EdgeCast Networks, announced today that the firm is now profitable. The firm said it became profitable in Q3, and has been EBITDA positive since Q2. The privately held company said it has been growing its revenues by more than 10 percent per month this year, and more than 30 percent per month since its launch in August 2007. La Jolla Pharmaceuticals Looks To Dissolve Firm
San Diego-based La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company, a publicly traded biopharmaceuticals firm, reported this morning that its stockholders are set to vote on a liquidation plan for the company. The firm said it is looking to fully dissolve the company, paying off its creditors and distributing any remaining cash. The company said it had cash, net of liabilities and obligations, of approximately $4.4M. Jazz Semiconductor, ADSANTEC Get Win At NASA
Newport Beach-based Jazz Semiconductor and Rancho Palos Verdes-based ADSANTEC, a fabless semiconductor design firm, said today that the companies have been selected by NASA for designing a SERDES ASIC. The firms said that the high speed chip--which is used for high speed communications--will use Jazz's SiGe BiCMOS process and radiation hardened libraries from Jazz. Move In Joint Venture
Westlake Village-based Move, which operates a network of online real estate-focused web sites, said late Wednesday that it is in a joint venture with Builder Homesite focused on new home builders.
