Exopolis Acquired By Venture Firm
Los Angeles-based Exopolis, a creative agency whose clients include Rhapsody, Apple, Coca-Cola, Nokia, Disney, and others, has been acquired by venture capital firm Austin Ventures, the firm said this week. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Exopolis said that as part of the acquisition, Matt Hovis, co-founder of Austin-based Action Figure, has joined as Chief Creative Officer.

CitySourced Integrates App With San Francisco
Los Angeles-based CitySourced, a developer of a mobile phone application which helps citizens report potholes, graffiti, and other issues to cities, said today that it has integrated its software with the San Francisco Open311 API. According to CitySourced, the integration allows its application to send reports directly to San Francisco's 311 system, an effort which gives citizens direct access to non-emergency, government offices. Napster Integrates With Facebook, YouTube, Flickr
Los Angeles-based Napster, the online music service now owned by Best Buy, has just rolled out a number of major improvements this morning to the site, including social networking integration with Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr. Napster said that it is exiting beta mode for the service, and will begin allowing users to "Like" artists, albums, and playlists on Facebook, as well share songs via Facebook or Twitter. Novatel Selects PocketGear For App Store
San Diego-based Novatel Wireless said today that it has selected PocketGear to power a new, application store for its MiFi mobile hotspot device. According to the firm, PocketGear will power the MiFi App Store, which will provide additional functionality to MiFi users. Novatel did not detail what kinds of applications might be offered via the new app store, but said it is working with its technology partners to create applications for enterprise users and consumers. Optimer Pharmaceuticals Names CEO
San Diego-based Optimer Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceuticals firm focused on antibiotics, said today that it has appointed Pedro Lichtinger as its new President and CEO. Lichtinger replaces Michael N. Chang, co-founder of the firm, who will become Chairman of the firm's board. Lichtinger joins from Pfizer, where he was most recently President of Pfizer's Global Primary Care Business Unit. Lichtinger had been at Pfizer since 1995.

Gorilla Nation Renews eBaumsWorld.com
Los Angeles-based Gorilla Nation, which provides advertising sales for web site operators, reported today that it has renewed an agreement with eBaumsWorld.com, where it will continue to represent all of the site's ad inventory. The two have had a relationship since 2003. eBaumsWorld features user-generated humor videos, cartoons, and games. Gorilla Nation specializes in finding brand advertisers for mid-range web sites.

Cogent Sees HP Design Win
Pasadena-based Cogent, a developer of biometric identification systems and fingerprint readers, announced last night that its Facial BioTrust software has been integrated into a line of HP business notebooks. Cogent said its software, which allows users to log onto their computer using facial recognition, has been integrated into HP's Business Notebook Mini 5102 series. Local.com Wins Newsday
Irvine-based Local.com, a provider of local business search sites, said today that it has been selected by Newsday Media Group to power a private label, local search site. According to Local.com, it will power the search directory for Newsday's flagship site, as well as the local directories on sites Explore Long Island and Get Local Long Island. Financial impact of the customer win was not disclosed. Local.com said that Newsday is using its Local Connect private label product.

Integrien Names Sales VP
Irvine-based Integrien, a developer of performance analytics software for the enterprise, reported today that it has hired Phil Rugani as Executive Vice President of Sales and Field Operations. Rugani joins the firm from Jupiter Management Consulting Group, where he was CEO. Rugani also served at AXS-One, IBM, FileNet, Oracle, Informix, and Alta Vista. At FileNet, he was the firm's Senior Vice President, Americas and Worldwide Channel Operations when it was acquired by IBM.
