Qualcomm Backs Biometrics Sensor Firm
San Diego-based Qualcomm Ventures, the venture capital arm of Qualcomm, is continuing to back biometric fingerprint sensor maker Validity in its latest funding round. Validity said Tuesday that it has received $12.6M in a Series D round, which included both Qualcomm Ventures, as well as new investor Panorama Capital, and prior investors Crosslink Capital, Qualcomm Ventures, and VentureTech Alliance. Qualcomm has been an investor in Validity since before 2006. Validity is based in San Jose.

Sometrics Claims Growth In Virtual Goods Marketplace
Los Angeles-based Sometrics is claiming growth in the firm's new virtual goods marketplace, GameCoins.com. According to the firm today, its publishers are seeing "exceptional growth in engagement" by using the system. Sometrics helps online game publishers to monetize their products, and encourage things such as spreading the word about their games on Facebook and other incentives. WebVisible Sees Advertising Recovery
Irvine-based WebVisible, the venture-backed provider of online advertising services to small and medium businesses run by Kirsten Mangers, reports today that it is seeing a recovery in advertising spending. The firm said it has seen an increase of 160 percent in SMB ad spending over a year ago, particularly in the areas of spending for businesses offering jewelry, loans, mortgages and job recruitment services. Integrien Gets Patent
Irvine-based Integrien Corporation, a developer of IT performance analysis software, said today that it has received a third patent on its technology. Integrien said it has received U.S. Patent 7,707,285, covering "System and method for generating and using fingerprints for IT performance management". According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office, the patent was actually issued in April, naming CTO Mazda Marvasti as inventor. The firm had filed for the patent in September of 2006. iRise Ships With HP
El Segundo-based iRise, which develops visualization software for enterprise development, said this week that it has shipped a connector which integrates the software with HP Quality Center. HP Quality Center is a requirements management and testing software product. The firm did not release pricing details on the new product. iRise is backed by Morgan Stanley Venture Partners and Deutsche Bank.

Pragmatic Solutions Launches Gaming Content Management Product
Westlake Village-based Pragmatic Solutions, which develops data analytics software for the computer gaming market, said Monday that it has launched a new product called mygameIQ. The firm said the product provides digital distribution and content management for gaming, allowing users to launch both browser-based and downloadable games. The company also said the product is the official download management client for AOL site Big Download.
