Cool Planet Biofuels Gets $3.0M More
Camarillo-based Cool Planet Biofuels, a firm developing biofuels technology to replace gasoline using biomass, has raised $3.0M as part of an ongoing, $8.0M funding round, according to a filing by the firm today. Source of the new funding was not announced, however, the firm is now backed by North Bridge Venture Partners. Meteor Games Names Hydra's Brandenberg As CEO
Beverly Hill-based Meteor Games, a developer of social games, announced Thursday that it has named Zac Brandenberg as CEO. Brandenberg was most recently CEO of Hydra. Brandenberg has been on the board of Meteor Games for the last two years. Meteor Games is the newest startup of the creators of Neopets, and operates Facebook games such as Island Paradise. IntraStage Raises Angel Funding
San Diego-based IntraStage, a developer of quality management software for companies who design and manufacture electronic products, including statistical process control (SPC) and other testing and data analytics tools, has raised a round of angel funding. According to the firm, it raised a Series A investment led by the Tech Coast Angels. Other investors were not disclosed. Yelp Targets Groupon In San Diego
Local review site Yelp is getting into the daily deals business--and going head to head with Groupon--and has chosen San Diego as its first beachhead into the market. According to Yelp, it has begun offering local deals in San Diego as an expansion into the daily deals market. Yelp said it has begun offering special deals in San Diego--this week, from The Little Yoga Studio--to its users, as it starts testing deals in markets like San Francisco and New York. RotoHog Rolls Out Fantasy Football Salary Cap Game
Los Angeles-based RotoHog, the developer of online fantasy sports and entertainment games run by Kelly Perdew, has rolled out a new Fantasy Football Salary Cap game, the firm said this week. The firm said the new game allows any independent publisher to run their own, syndicated version of the game on their web site. Emulex Promotes Benck to President
Costa Mesa-based storage area networking equipment maker Emulex said Thursday morning that it has named Jeff Benck as President and Chief Operations Officer. Emulex was most recently EVP and Chief Operating Officer. Benck has been at Emulex since 2008, and was previously President and COO at Emulex competitor QLogic. Benck also served at IBM. Emulex said Benck's promotion comes due to his successful execution on key original equipment manufacturer (OEM) design wins.

Epicor Wins Mexican Manufacturer
Irvine-based Epicor, which develops enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, said this week that it has signed Mexican manufacturer Cartones Microcorrugados (Carto Micro) as a customer. Size of the customer win was not announced. Epicor said Carto Micro is using its enterprise resource planning software to streamline its operations management. Carto Miro is a manufacturer of cardboard boxes.

Local.com Expands In Irvine
Irvine-based Local.com, the operator of a network of local search sites, said today that it has relocated its headquarters into a new location, which is approximately 50 percent larger than its previous facility. According to Local.com, it is moving to a new location on Irvine Center Drive with approximately 34,000 square feet. The firm said it has signed a five-year lease on the location.

Cricket Debuts Android Phone
San Diego-based Cricket Communications, the wireless service provider owned by Leap Wireless, said today along with Kyocera Communications that the firms have introduced the carrier's first Android phone. The firm said the new Sanyo ZIO by Kyocera has been launched on the service, and will retail for $249.99 without a contract.
