Boingo Expands Network In China
Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless, the operator of a global network of Wi-Fi access points, reported Friday that it has inked a deal with China Telecommunications Corporation to extend its access in China. Boingo said the new deal provides access to hotspots in all of the provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions of China, and boosts its total hotspots to 185,000 globally. Factual Ties With Partners On Local Data Effort
Los Angeles-based Factual, the open data platform startup headed by Google AdSense inventor Gil Elbaz, said last night that it has inked a number of deals to provide and link its local business information data to Facebook, Booyah, Home Junction, and others. According to Factual, it will access and contribute to new local datasets with Home Junction and Booyah, and deliver local data for Facebook Places in the UK and Japan. Caldera Medical Gets Grant
Agoura Hills-based Caldera Medical, a developer of medical devices for the gynecology, urology and urogynecology markets, said this week that it has received two grants worth a total of $488,958 from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. According to Caldera, the grants came from the Qualifying Therapeutic Discovery Project (QTDP) program, an effort to provide tax credits and grants to companies in the life sciences area.
