Move Networks Acquired by Echostar
Move Networks, the venture backed developer of high definition streaming technology for Internet video, has been acquired by Echostar, the firms said Thursday afternoon. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. Move, which briefly was based in Irvine, was venture backed by Steamboat Ventures, Hummer Winblad Venture Partners, Benchmark Capital, Microsoft, Cisco, Comcast and Televisa. Amgen, Xencor In Development Deal
Thousand Oaks-based Amgen, and Monrovia-based Xencor said Thursday that the two firms are in a co-development dual around a new novel antibody for treating autoimmune diseases. According to the two, Amgen has gained an option to an exclusive, worldwide license on Xencor's XmAb5871. The deal is worth up to $75M in a combination of up-front and early development milestone payments, as well as up to $425M in clinical, regulatory and commercialization milestone payments. Triptrotting Scores Funding
Altadena-based Triptrotting, an online community that helps world travelers find hosts, has scored a Series A round of funding, according to sources close to the firm. The funding came from Idealab's New Ventures Group. Details on the funding, and size, have not yet been announced by the startup. The firm is headed by Aigerim Duiseneyeva and was co-founded by Shana Zheng, and its advisers include Ken Hayes, former President at Nami Media and member of the Pasadena Angels as well as Galen Buckwal (More info...)

RealD Launches 3D TV Eyewear Technology
Los Angeles-based 3D technology firm RealD said today at CES, that it is launching technology to power 3D eyewear which is compatible with 3D high definition televisions sold by most major consumer electronics brands. RealD said it has developed its own ASOC, which incorporates a programmable front end which will sync image streams from multiple brands of 3D displays. MarketShare Names VP
Los Angeles-based MarketShare, a provider of advertising optimization and decision making software, said this week that it has named Steve Tobias as the firm's Senior Vice President and Managing Director. Tobias joins from Marketing Management Analytics (MMA), and also previously has served at Bearingpoint and Arthur Andersen. The firm said Tobias will help it scale its client relationships and strategic offerings. MarketShare is backed by private equity firm Elevation Partners.

CODA Holdings Raises $76M
Santa Monica-based CODA Holdings, the developer of electric vehicles and related battery systems, said today that it has raised $76M in an initial close of a Series D investment round. The new funding was led by Harbinger Capital Partners and Riverstone Holdings LLC. CODA said other investors in the round include founder Miles Rubin, Inerim CEO Steven "Mac" Heller, AERIS Capital, and Angeleno Group. Qualcomm Plans Up To $975M Investment In Taiwan Plant
San Diego-based Qualcomm MEMS Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, announced this morning that it has reached a deal with the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs, to construct a new fabrication facility in the country. Qualcomm said it expects to invest up to $975M in the facility, which will manufacture the firm's Mirasol brand displays. The new factory is expected to be operational in 2012. The new facility will be located in the Hsinchu Science Park.

Row 44 Gets European Approval
Westlake Village-based Row 44, which develops wireless equipment for the commercial aircraft market, said Wednesday that it has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The firm said the approval allows it to equip commercial aircraft in Europe with its products. Row 44 said the certification covers installation in Boeing 737-700, 800, and 900 series airframes. Row 44 is headed by John Guidon.
