Goldstar Approaches 5 Million Ticket Sales
Los Angeles-based Goldstar, the online, discounted event tickets service run by Jim McCarthy, is getting close to hitting 5 million tickets sold on the site, according to an email to users by CEO and co-founder Jim McCarthy. McCarthy said that the site is just about set to sell its 5,000,000 ticket on the service, which offers highly discounted tickets to local concerts, live music, theaters, comedy clubs, and more. Cornerstone OnDemand Wins $20M Contract
Santa Monica-based Cornerstone OnDemand, the developer of human resources, talent management, and learning software, said today that it has inked a $20M contract with the U.S. Department of the Treasury. The newly public firm, headed by Adam Miller, said that the win came in the form of a five-year, $20M blanket purchase agreement. The U.S. Treasury will be used for learning management, performance management, succession planning and enterprise social networking.

Central Desktop Goes Mobile
Pasadena-based Central Desktop, the online provider of project management and other business tools, said this week that it has launched a set of mobile apps. The apps, which run on Apple iPhone, iPod Touch, iPod, Android, and BlackBerry devices, allow Central Desktop's customers to access the site's various features directly from their mobile phone. Pixoto Raises Seed Funding For Photo Site
Pixoto, a new startup focused on sharing and voting on photographic images which is headed by former Pictage founder Jason Kiefer, has just scored a seed funding worth $360,000, according to a regulatory filing by the firm this week. The firm's founders are Jason Kiefer, Justin Kifer, and Scott Murphy. Kiefer is based in Boulder, Colorado, Kifer is in Los Angeles, and Murphy is in Huntington Beach. Hulu Debuts A Day In The Life
Los Angeles-based Hulu has debuted its first, long form, original content effort, A Day In The Life from Morgan Spurlock today, posting an episode on Richard Branson. Hulu had announced the effort at the beginning of the month. Spurlock is known for his work on "Super Size Me," "Greatest Movie Ever Sold," and "30 Days". Hulu plans on rolling out new episodes every Wednesday.

Magento Acquisition By eBay Completes
Los Angeles-based Magento, the developer of open source, e-commerce software, has officially become part of eBay, eBay announced Wednesday afternoon. eBay had originally announced its acquisition of Magento in June. Financial terms of the buy were not disclosed. eBay said that it is making Magento part of its X.commerce, integrated open commerce platform group. Magento was headed by Roy Rubin.

Break Media Sees Move Towards Mobile
Los Angeles-based online publisher Break Media is reporting this morning that it is seeing a shift towards mobile access on the company's various websites. According to Break, twelve percent of its video views are now happening on mobile or other consumer entertainment devices. Break--which is run by Keith Richman-said its Android and iOS apps have now surpassed more than 1.5 million downloads. Skype WiFi, Powered By Boingo, Hits iOS
Skype, the provider of voice-over-IP services, is expanding its features which allow Skype users to easily connect to Wi-Fi hotspots, with a new iOS app. According to Skype, it has released Skype WiFi, a new app which helps connect Skype users with Wi-Fi hotspots around the world. StockTwits Trumpets Usage Surge
San Diego-based StockTwits, the online, real-time stock discussion site run by Howard Lindzon, said today that it has seen a spike in its usage on its site. The firm said it has seen an increase in message volume on the site grwo by 227 percent over the last 12 months. The firm attributed the increase to adoption by both investors and companies, who use the site to disseminate important company news. TCA Funds PharmaSecure
The Tech Coast Angels, Southern California's biggest and most active angel investing group, appears to be backing a developer of prescription drug validation systems, based in Lebanon, N.H. According to a regulatory filing from PharmaSecure, it has raised $2.5M out of a $6M funding round, currently in progress. Quality Systems Buys CQI Solutions
Irvine-based Quality Systems, a developer of electronic health records and other health-related IT products, said Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire CQI Solutions, a provider of surgery information systems. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Quality Systems said that CQI will becomepart of its wholly owned subsidiary, NextGen Healthcare Information Systems, Inc. CQI was based in New Braunfels, Texas.

Shopatron Powers Grover Pro
San Luis Obispo-based Shopatron, the developer of e-commerce software, reported yesterday that it is powering the online site for musical instrument manufacturer Grover Pro. Shopatron said that Grover Pro, a maker of percussion instruments, is using its e-commerce software for selling its entire product line online. Financial impact of the win was not announced.

ClariPhy Names CEO
Irvine-based ClariPhy Communications, a developer of mixed-signal, digital signal processing (DSP) systems-on-a-chip, said today that it has named Nariman Yousefi as its new CEO and President. Yousefi is a Broadcom veteran, having served at Broadcom for 17 years, as a part of that firm's Enterprise Networking Group.
