Mobile Roadie Releases iPad Preview Tool
Los Angeles-based Mobile Roadie is further enhancing its software tools, which help companies and brands create their own, mobile apps without programming, with the release of a new iPad software tool. The firm said this week that it has launched Mobile Roadie Connect for iPad, a tool which allows its users to preview and test out their applications on the iPad, before releasing that app. The firm said the new tool will decrease the chance of "mess-ups" before an app is submitted to go live. Uber Expands In San Diego
Uber, the technology-enabled, private car service which uses smartphones to allow users to summon a private car, is further expanding its Southern California efforts, saying today that it has launched in San Diego. The service--which expanded into Los Angeles in March--lets users call for private sedans operated by partners in the area. Uber is venture backed by Menlo Ventures, Bezos Expeditions, and Goldman Sachs, and is based in San Francisco, although CEO Travis Kalanick is a LA native.

Goodreads Nearing Nine Million Members
Los Angeles-based Goodreads, the online social networking site focused on books, reported this week that it is just about set to hit nine million members of the service. The site, which is headed by Otis Chandler, said it now has over 300 million books cataloged. The firm announced the numbers along with its participation in the launch of the Facebook App Center, which highlights the top applications on the popular social networking site. Space Geeks Rejoice: JPL Opens Doors This Weekend
Southern California has seen a big increase in interest in space recently--particularly with the success in the last few weeks of one of the area's highest profile, venture backed startups, SpaceX, delivering a spacecraft to the International Space Station. XCOR Aerospace Names Space Tourism Sales Agent
Mojave-based XCOR Aerospace, one of the Southern California companies developing space vehicles, said that it has named a General Sales Agent for the firm's space tourism flights. The company--which is in the midst of developing a suborbital vehicle to deliver tourists to space--said it will offer up its $95,000 flights to space through Space Expedition Corporation (SXC). SRS Labs Signs Mobile Device Maker In India
Santa Ana-based SRS Labs, the provider of surround sound and other audio processing technology, said today that it has scored a win with Karbonn Mobiles, a developer of mobile handsets. SRS said that Karbonn, which provides multimedia phones in India, will use its SRS WOW HD technology in its mobile devices. Financial details of the win were not announced.
